Thinking about coaching for yourself, your teen, or both? Here are plain answers to common questions. If yours isn’t here, send Myli a note and ask.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching is a space for reflection and everyday skill practice: noticing your thoughts, pausing before you react, and choosing responses that fit your values. Therapy is clinical care from a licensed professional who can assess, diagnose and treat mental health conditions. Just Love Now is coaching, not therapy, and it doesn’t replace mental health care. If you or your teen already see a counselor or therapist, mention it on your intro call.
Who are the programs for?
Reset and Rise is for parents and caregivers of teens ages 13 to 17, including single parents, co-parents, grandparents, and foster and adoptive parents. Becoming Me is for teens 13 to 17 themselves. Each program is six weekly one-on-one sessions with Myli.
Do I need a big problem to start?
No. As Myli puts it, “You don’t need fixing. You need a little more room to breathe, and a kinder voice in your corner.” Coaching is a place to practice, whether life feels heavy right now or you’re simply ready for something to feel different.
What happens in a session?
Each session runs about 50 minutes: 10 minutes to check in and review your practice, 10 minutes on the week’s topic, 15 minutes for an activity, 10 minutes to rehearse a real-life response, and 5 minutes to choose one action for the week. A 45-minute version is also available. Activities can be writing, talking or voice notes, and teens can also use drawing, comics or voice memos. Parents set their goals with Myli’s help, and teens choose their own.
What will we work on each week?
Both programs teach the same four-step practice: Notice, Pause, Check and Choose. Each week you use it in a new way, from noticing the stories you tell yourself to planning what comes next. Feelings are welcome at every step, and the goal isn’t to stop feeling, only to make a useful next step easier. You can read about the four steps any time.
What if I have a busy or stressful week?
Life happens, and growth isn’t a straight line. Every weekly practice has a lighter version for busy or stressful weeks, so you can keep going without starting over. Some weeks, simply noticing is the whole practice, and that counts.
Does my teen have to agree to coaching?
Yes. Teens join Becoming Me only with a guardian’s permission and their own agreement. The program is built around a teen’s own goals and choices, so their yes matters. If your teen isn’t ready yet, Reset and Rise can still support you as a parent in the meantime.
Will my teen’s sessions stay private?
Yes, within the limits explained below. Parents hear about attendance and general progress, not what their teen says in sessions. Privacy is part of the written agreements everyone sets up before session 1, so you’ll both know what to expect. This gives teens room to be honest while parents stay informed about how things are going.
Are there limits to confidentiality?
Yes. Myli is a mandated reporter, which means the law requires her to share information in certain situations. Information is shared if someone is at risk of serious harm, if abuse or neglect is suspected, or if the law requires it. These limits exist to keep everyone safe, and they apply to parents and teens alike.
When does coaching pause?
If self-harm or suicidal thoughts, abuse or violence, harmful substance use, eating concerns, severe or worsening low mood or anxiety, or unsafe bullying come up, coaching pauses. Myli then connects the family with qualified support, meaning professionals trained to help with what’s going on. Coaching isn’t the right tool for those situations, and pausing puts safety first.
Can a parent and a teen both take a program?
Yes. You can take either program on its own or both together. Each person has their own one-on-one sessions with Myli, and the two programs cover the same theme in the same week, which helps a family build a shared language at home.
What is the parent and teen connection session?
Families who finish both programs can add an optional 30-minute connection session together. It happens only if the parent and the teen each agree, privately, so no one feels pushed into it. Together you set agreements, try a listening exercise, choose one small shared experiment for the week, and close with appreciations. Private worksheets stay private unless their owner chooses to share them. As for whether it’s included or costs extra, Myli will confirm this when you talk.
Are sessions online or in person?
Sessions are always one-on-one with Myli. Whether yours happen online, in person or a mix of both, and where in-person sessions would meet: Myli will confirm this when you talk.
How much does coaching cost?
Myli will confirm this when you talk. Your intro call is free, and there’s no pressure to decide anything during it. Bring any questions about cost, for one program or both, and ask as many as you need.
How do I get started?
It starts with a free, no-pressure intro call: a short conversation about what’s going on and what you hope will change. Next comes an intake conversation of 15 to 20 minutes about your goals and how the program will work for you. Then you’ll set up clear, simple written agreements about privacy and how sessions run, and your six weeks begin with session 1. To ask for your intro call, use the contact page and Myli will reply to find a time that works. As for booking your weekly sessions, Myli will confirm this when you talk.
How will I know if it’s helping?
At the first and last sessions, you’ll rate a few things from 0 to 10, and each week you’ll check in on how manageable the week felt. At the end, you’ll share feedback too. These are reflection tools, not clinical scores or promises of results. Notice the small things as well, like catching a thought sooner or pausing before a sharp reply.
Is there anything I can try before I start?
Yes. Myli’s free guide, Come Home to Yourself, walks through five gentle mindset shifts, each with a short practice. You can also try the 5-minute daily practice or the 30-day journey, one small step a day.
What if someone needs help right now?
Coaching isn’t a crisis service, so please don’t wait for a session. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line, and the safety page lists more places to turn. If you’re having thoughts of harming yourself, please call or text 988 (U.S.) right now.
